Easter Eggs and allusions have been the order of the day in World of Warcraft for years. The developers of the Californian game forge have been hiding (pop-)cultural clues in the big wide world of Azeroth since time immemorial. Whether it's Indiana Jones in Uldum, the death knight quest "Grand Theft Palomino" or the replica of the tower defense map "Plants vs. Zombies" - Easter Eggs are always good for a smile.
Today we would like to show you a WoW-allusion of a special kind, which might be interesting for lovers of the music genre "Metal". (Source: WoWHead)
As redditor Froyak recently pointed out, the NPC "Tapani Nightwish" from the WoW Shadowlands area Maldraxxus is a reference to the bassist and singer "Marco Tapani Hietala" of the metal band "Nightwish". This nice gesture aroused the Redditor's curiosity and so he went in search of clues in Maldraxxus. Because where there is a metal reference, there could be more hidden - according to the redditor. As we now know, he was right.
The Reddit post made waves - and soon even more players started searching for musical references:
There is also an interesting allusion at item level - at least in the original English. The "Flask of Team Spirit" vial has a reference to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as the flavor text: "Smells like team spirit."
Note: Linguistic Easter Eggs are now and then not adequately translated. That's why I left the original English names of the NPCs, but linked the German names - so you can compare them by mouse-over.
